HIGHWAY NOISE BARRIERS - Again !

Firstly today let me apologise in advance for the poor quality of the photos.
They were taken from the car as it travelled along the highway to the Gold Coast.

Quite some time ago, in this post, I wrote about the artwork on the noise reducing barriers that are constructed along many of our highways that go through built up area of housing.

These works of art evolve very slowly.
Some take years to complete.

They begin with building up a background then foliage and trees are added.

Sometimes it is difficult to tell if the trees are painted or real ones growing in front of the large barriers.

I have no idea who does them but it appears to be the same person/ people as the style is very similar.

Next comes the detail - often native animals and birds - but sometimes themes like beaches or a salute to our armed forces or whales.

Recently delightful portraits of children have begun to emerge from the foliage.

Such a great idea.

I love them. Don't you ?

Cheers.

    1. Provides them with an outlet for their talent too. Pity there is no recognition for the artists though.

  2. I was just looking at the new sound barriers they have built here in Cairns and thinking how nice they looked. But nothing with artwork. I am not sure about the giant sized babies - surreal perhaps. It can me a boring drive down that freeway - so anything to add some interest - and better than graffiti tags.

    1. There are so many of these barriers everywhere today aren't there? I'm sure they serve their purpose but they are not nice to look at and certainly don't add to the beauty of the environment . I love some of the themes they have chosen too.

    1. Yes it is. The people who do them are very talented.

  6. Yes. I do love them. I hate graffiti but I love street art that beautifies the environment and makes it human again. Perhaps you and Tony should get your overalls on, a few cans of paint and make your own artistic contribution - how about the Amalfi coast of Italy? You could base your street art on a photograph you snapped.

    1. Absolutely no talent at all for illustrating YP I'm afraid, so we would be put in the graffiti class.
