HIGHWAY NOISE BARRIERS - Again !

Firstly today let me apologise in advance for the poor quality of the photos.
They were taken from the car as it travelled along the highway to the Gold Coast.

Quite some time ago, in this post, I wrote about the artwork on the noise reducing barriers that are constructed along many of our highways that go through built up area of housing.

These works of art evolve very slowly.
Some take years to complete.

They begin with building up a background then foliage and trees are added.

Sometimes it is difficult to tell if the trees are painted or real ones growing in front of the large barriers.

I have no idea who does them but it appears to be the same person/ people as the style is very similar.

Next comes the detail - often native animals and birds - but sometimes themes like beaches or a salute to our armed forces or whales.

Recently delightful portraits of children have begun to emerge from the foliage.

Such a great idea.

I love them. Don't you ?

Cheers.

A VERY GOOD REASON

This

is the reason why we try to go overseas when the weather there is cooler.

We 're not looking for hot sunny days and beautiful beaches when we go on holidays, we have them
 here !

This morning we drove for about 70 minutes to reach these lovely beaches.

We had breakfast.
Then shoes in hand and sun visor on, Tony and I strolled along the lovely white sands

and paddled in the clear, refreshing water of the Gold Coast beaches.

The temperature was in the high twenties and we are facing six months of hot weather ahead but today was almost perfect.

There was even a humpback whale frolicking in the deeper water off the beach.

It's school holiday time and families were out enjoying the wonderful Spring weather.

Of course a delicious gelato was just what we needed before we set off back home.

It's a hard life.

Cheers.

LOVELY WEATHER, LET'S GO OUT !

Can you guess where we've been today?

We were up and dressed and out of the door by 8:00am today.

The sky was blue and the weather warm as we headed off along the highway.

Peeping out among the dark green leaves along the roadside were lovely wattles bursting into bloom.

First it was breakfast at a little cafe then we met up with.....

Sally and Scout

Scout is growing up fast.
She's 5 and a half months old now.

We parked at this children's park near the beach where dogs are allowed off leach.

The possom was keeping a look out for other pirates.

The beach beckoned so off over the dunes we went.

No surf today and not too many people about as school holidays have just finished.

Plenty of room to run and chase the ball without disturbing anybody.

Then back over the dunes to the banks of Currumbin Creek

A few hardy souls were swimming out to this sandbank with their dogs.

Not warm enough for us to join them today though Scout was in and out of the water.

Have I mentioned before that Queensland does Winter well ??????

Cheers.

MIGALOO

He's back!

I think I mention him every year  but it's so good to hear he's still around and seemingly doing well.
Migaloo, the pure white humpback whale is back frolicking in the waters off the Gold Coast beaches east of Brisbane.

Naturally these are not my photos.
Isn't he astounding?

Click  here  if you'd like to see a video taken yesterday of this lovely creature.

Cheers.
