Spring has come and gone and we are now plunged into full Summer weather.
Luckily, as yet, we have not had much of the humidity that makes our Summers so hard to cope with.
The lack of any rain at all through August to November meant that our Spring was a pretty colourless affair with the almost complete absence of annual flowers in dry suburban gardens.
Thankfully we have our lovely tropical trees to add colour to our city.
The lovely purple Jacarandas have now a disappeared from the streets of Brisbane to be replaced with a blaze of vibrant red in the form of the Poinciana trees.
These large trees need a large garden to grow in

and are found in gardens and street plantings all over Brisbane especially in older suburbs where the trees can be very big.
You may remember I wrote about them here .

Yesterday Tony came upon this cute fellow.
It's a mail box made out of old gas bottles !
People are clever aren't they?
Collecting the mail would be fun every day.
I'd never be able to resist having a chat with him as I checked his tummy for any post.
I love that we haven't had any of that horrible humid weather so far, fingers crossed it's not as bad this year as it has been in previous summers. It would be nice to see some rain though.
ReplyDeleteLuckily we have finally had a bit of rain here Marg. Enough to green up the lawn so it is all looking much nicer.
DeleteThe trees are beautiful! I would surely like looking out my window and seeing one. The mailbox is a charmer. I'm amazed at the detail. I don't know which sets him off the most - the sleeves, the belt or the shoes.
ReplyDeleteHe's a great character isn't he? I love him!
DeleteHelen, I saw a whole row of Poinciana yesterday on the bus ~ we'll they weren't on the bus! I was, and I thought of you. Cool postbox. There is a guy up here who rode all over Cairns photographing postboxes. I will have to find the link.
ReplyDeleteLove the Poincianas, they seem a bit early this year. I love the post box, people are clever aren't they?
DeleteDelightful. What a blaze of rednesses you found! Like David, I think the mailman is delightful.
ReplyDeleteLovely colour then lovely shade, a real winner of a tree.
DeleteYou have some fantastic trees in Australia. That mail box is just brilliant. I bet the postie says good morning to him too when he delivers the mail!
ReplyDeleteThat is one very cool mail box!
ReplyDeleteCan't you see yourself talking to it whenever you collect the mail ?
DeleteLovely, exotic trees. Perhaps Tony can design and make a unique mailbox for your house so that you will be the envy of all your neighbours. May I suggest that for Christmas you buy him a welding kit - including soldering irons and goggles? A visit to a local scrapyard will help him to locate useful pieces that can be incorporated into the new mailbox design.

DeleteTony used up all his designing talent on the minimalist bird feeder YP !
DeletePerhaps you're right Helen but possibly you underestimate your devoted spouse's practical abilities methinks. An intricate wrought iron fence telling the history of Australia would surely give your lovely home another extra wow factor.
DeleteCongratulations Helen ~ I have passed on the SUNSHINE AWARD to you for your creativity and positivism. I have acknowledged you on my blog.
