GRASSINGTON TO HEBDEN - YORKSHIRE DALES

A chance conversation with an lovely resident while out exploring the village led us to our next walk. She directed us up through the village to find Edge Lane then off through the fields to Hebden where there is a wonderful tea shop.

No more encouragement needed !

The weather was threatening but we have raincoats and thee possibility of English rain does not daunt Aussies used to tropical downpours !

Up, up and out of the vilage

then meandering through the fields once again.

I've come to love the absence of leaves on the trees.

I love the way you can see through the trees and beyond them at this time of the year.

and those rock walls snaking their way across the green creating a multitude of patterns.

Yes, it rained but we kept on smiling.

through random clumps of daffodils

across small roads

through more of those skinny gateways that challenged my short legs and midsection !

And always there were green fields

  and lovely vistas

sometimes more soggy than others

but always lovely

then down into Hebden and the tea shop called The Old School House

where warm Asparagas Soup and delightful cake and hot chocolate soon chased the cold away.

Then came the walk home - 2 miles in the gentle rain.
Down to the river

Over more of those pesky styles

over cute little bridges and raging torrents
  until civilization came into view
and we walked up the path between the walls
to
HOME.

Lovely.

Cheers.

GRASSINGTON - MAY 2018

I've been very slack.
We've been home from our fabulous holiday for more than four months and I haven't recorded any of it here.
Let's just say that the demands of home ( elderly parents to visit, Only grandchild's first birthday and a little illness ) have slowed the process down.
I usually post about our travels while we are away but am no longer able to work out how to post from my ipad ( don't you hate updates that change everything ??) and somehow you just lose the moment.

So here we go...….

After two days to recuperate from the long flights from Oz in the lovely Cotswolds we arrived in Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales for a week of sheer bliss.

This is my absolute favourite part of England and you'll easily be able to see why from all these photos.
A delightful cottage through HomeAway ( click to view it. highly recommended) right in the centre of the village, cool temperatures and friendly locals made for a great stay.
Walks through green countryside were what we were looking for and we were not disappointed.
One walk took us down to the river - the Warfe -

past the Linton Falls

and into the charming village of Linton

with it's inviting pub where we just had to stop off at the local pub for a hot chocolate !

This walk was the longest we attempted while here and ended up being 19+ kilometres !
We took it easy, strolling through green fields, past the odd garden with daffodils

squeezing through narrow openings ( especially for people with short legs whose widest part is lower than other people with long legs !!)

and across the most beautiful, picturesque landscape you could ask for.

Sometimes we walked along narrow country lanes …

        through small, isolated villages...…

where hospitality was advertised for those looking for a bed …..

and always daffodils and primroses along the way.

The way was easy to follow.
Just look across the field to where the next style crossed over the rock wall

Gentle up and down. no steep climbs

But oh those styles are a killer on short legs and old knees

with huge step ups and downs.
There were so many of them !
Luckily the final 2 miles were along the river.

A wonderful Day1.

Cheers.
