FAVOURITE THINGS FRIDAY

Hello everyone out there in Blogland it's Friday again.
That means Favourite Things Friday
so if you'd like to join in just click on the button on my sidebar and it will take you to the lovely Mrs PJs who coordinates FTF.

Now today, with this FTF post, I'm giving you a glimpse of what a tragic person
I really am.
One of my all time favourite things is ......

The Brisbane International Airport !

We just love it !

When friends tell me they are going overseas we always volunteer to take them to the airport.

Our airport is a bit different to some we've seen overseas because it has a large visitors' area.

Aussies like to wave goodbye to friends and family who travel so there's lots of room to sit with them after they've checked in till it's time for them to go through customs to the departure lounge.

We love to go and "see them off ".

have a coffee,

check out the arrivals and departure boards,

browse through the shops,

pretend it's us that's taking this flight somewhere overseas

and generally soak up the whole atmosphere.

Yep, a bit tragic I can hear you saying !

Cheers.

  1. You are lucky to have so much space in Oz - everything here is somewhat cramped and Heathrow airport is certainly not somewhere one would go from choice especially with armed police wandering about all the time!! If you can't actually fly off somewhere I guess enjoying it vicariously (is that the word I want?) is the next best thing. Have a good weekend.

  2. I think airports have worked harder to be nice places to hang out. Which as bad as flight delays have gotten in the US, that's a good thing. My Guy has flown through Brisbane comng from the US. It's his preferred path rather then through Sydney.

    What's the parking like?

  3. Kate:
    Expensive but there is plenty!
I hear Sydney International is not good but I've never been there.

  4. I do think airports have gotten better - but, unlike you, I just get jealous when I take someone else to the airport! :)

  5. Nah, not tragic at all. There is a lot of happiness at airports.

  6. HAHA this post made me laugh :)
I also love going to the International Airport (although the Perth one). Although it's nice for the first trip because it means something exciting is happening but I don't enjoy the drop off so much as it generally means our visitors are going home!

  7. Fabulous favourite! Your airport is lovely. Ours is a tee-niny thing where you usually have to walk out onto the tarmac to board the plane. I'd much prefer yours...and visiting sweet bloggy friends like you. ☺ Happy FTF!

  8. Your airport reminds me of how ours use to be before 9/11. I remember going with family to the airport to see them off or to greet them when they arrived. Now only ticketed passengers are allow back to the gates. There's nothing sadder than leaving home with no one there to cheer you on and wave goodbye as you wait at the gate. Now you have to say goodbye at security. I liked having my Hubby there to sit with me at the gate when flying on business trips. Another reason why I hate to fly anymore. Our airports are so busy and parking is awful (and expensive) so it's not something that one would view as pleasurable to go to do here. The last time we picked friends up at the Philly airport their plane was late and they didn't get in until 1:30 AM. I use to fly a lot for business and it was wonderful before 9/11.

  9. Ah bless - but then there are so many seats available there and not overwhelmed with people, so that might make the difference! The smallest one I ever was in was in Waterford, Ireland. It could only seat one plane load of people, and only a small plane! I might post the pics one day just for you!

  10. The man at the computer you included twice appears to be on a website called "Bouncing Brisbane Beauties" which seems to be a medical site about silicon breast implants. No before pictures - only after.

  11. it does remind me of what our airports used to be like .. now airports are someplace you drop someone off and wave .. before you get rushed out of the drop off zone .. great FTF.

  12. Airports are exciting places. I love going to the airport , especially when I'm actually going somewhere.

We have Dreamy Donuts at our airport (which is the poor cousin of Krispy Kreme ) that alone makes it worth the trip!

  13. I don't mind Brisbane Airport either, I've been there a few times. It's certainly better than Melbourne airport, I haven't been to Sydney for ages so can't compare. Our little airport up here on the Sunshine Coast is quite nice too, plenty of seating, and nice gardens out the front you have to walk through to security.

  14. I don't mind going as long as it's not me flying anywhere. Lol! I am still a flying whimp!
