LEFTOVERS

What do  you  do with leftovers?
Do you have them on toast for breakfast like some of my friends do?

make them into pies.
After the recent visit from my son there was a lot of leftover roast lamb and vegies.
So I chopped them all up together...
potatoes,
sweet potatoes,
pumpkin,
swede,
beans,
onions,
parsnip
cauliflower with cheese sauce,
gravy
and chopped up roast lamb.

Then I added a hefty dollop of mint jelly and gave it all a good mix.

Then this handy gadget came out of the drawer......

and this is what I produced.

When I ran out of shortcrust pastry I used puff pastry to make three of  these.

So the freezer is stocked up and we've eaten a couple for lunch.
What a clever little housewife !

Cheers.

Imagine the fright I got when I went to hang clothes on the line and  this  was looking over the side fence at me !!!

I thought I was in Africa !!

It's a  HUGE  garden ornament !

Just look at those eyelashes !

This is what you see from the front yard.

Mother and baby giraffe !!

UNUSUAL WEATHER FOR AUGUST

This is what Tuesday's sky looked like.

It's very unusual for us to have Winter rain....

but overnight we've had 65 mm. !

That's a Winter record for us.......

.... but it's clearing today and already the grass is greener.

There's a feeling of Spring in the air. ....

The plants think so anyway.

Of course where there's Grevillea flowers, there's Lorikeets.

He was noisily objecting that I was too close !

So we'd better have those Winter casseroles while we can.

Lamb shanks for tea tonight !

We'll be back to salads before you know it.

Cheers.

A LEARNING PROJECT

Look at this !
A little pile of circles!

I'm making Attic24 Granny Squares.

or I should say trying to !

Still having a bit of trouble with the outside row.

( sorry for the flash - it's quite late at night )

Thought I would try to make a cushion cover as a learning project.

Cheers

WHAT A COINCIDENCE !

Today I was reading here on Kim's blog about the lovely new tea cosy she has made for her camper.
She created a clever design with two rectangles of crochet.
I've just received a teacosy from my clever SIL which has such a simple design.
Hers is made of squares !

First she knitted two large squares - ablue one and a yellow one - then sewed them together leaving room for the handle and the spout.

She decorated the top with several smaller squares in matching colours.

 How simple is that ?

Here are a few more of her creations.

Flowers,

chooks,

and the mice and cheese!!

SIMPLE PLEASURES

These beautiful cherries have come all the way from America to me, me, me!

I think they are one of life's treasures.

The weather has turned cool again with cold nights (6 to 8 degrees) and cool, sunny days (around 20 to 23 ) so we are having a last spurt of lovely Winter weather.

Time for some of these ...

and these ....

and this ( pumpkin )...

and roast beef for dinner tonight.

Cheers.

WHAT'S THE VERDICT?

Do you ever cook pork belly?

It seems to be the " in " ingredient with cooking shows.

It was the ingredient chosen by the winner of MasterChef this year.

I was in a cooking mood and we were having family over for dinner on Saturday
so I thought I'd give it a try for a starter.

I bought pork rashers that were like this ......

and cooked them three times -
boiled for 15 minuted in vinegar and water,
fried them off to brown them ,
then cooked them in a soy sauce and pineapple glaze.

but there was still too much  fat  for our liking.

What do you think of pork belly?

Cheers.
