WHO NEEDS AN ALARM CLOCK ?

I'm a bit weary to-night.
You see, I had a very early wake up call this morning.
About 4:30 am to be exact!
It was the local Kookaburras.

They decided to have a bit of a dawn chorus in our neighbourhood.
One of them on its own sounds
But when a group of them gets together
and they decide to stake out their territory by flying from tree to tree and performing a chorus at each stop,
it can be very noisy indeed !!
Like this !!

So I'm off to be early in case they decide on an encore performance tomorrow.

Cheers.

  1. Gosh I didn't realise they are so noisy! There are a few kookaburras at a wildlife place not far from here but I've never heard them 'laughing' before!

I hope it doesn't become a regular early wake up call!

  2. OMG 4:30 am is the middle of the night!
I used to love that song we sung at school "kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, Merry merry king of the bush is he", maybe not at that time of the morning tho!

  3. That is of course a 'first' for me. Not the sort of thing for 4:30am. :(
It is a very similar sound to the one our Magpies make when defending their nesting territory.
Luckily, not in the early hours.

  5. 4.30 am is a bit rude, although I do love the sound of Kookaburras.

  7. I LOVE the sound of the kookaburras!
Hope 4.30 doesn't become a daily occurrence, though!

  8. Luckily it doesn't happen very often at 4:30, they usually leave it till the sun is well and truly up.
I do love the sound of them laughing though. It's the sound of Australia to most expats.

  9. Ah, yes, nothing quite like it! Hope you got a decent sleep this morning!

(And I sometime complain about the single tui that starts at dawn!)

  10. Cute birds, I'm sure they aren't very cute when they start that early in the morning.

  11. We are blessed that these birds visit our yard. The noise is the sound of Australia that we miss so much when traveling overseas.

  12. 4:30 is a bit too early. Love the way they sound, never heard one in real life though.

  13. Haha, we had a bunch of rooks here doing much the same, not quite as noisy but loud enough ... I feel your pain, sleep deprivation is so not fun!

  14. Oh my goodness! I've just listened to the link. What a racket when there are loads of them! They are quite cute looking though. I guess there has to be something in their favour. Have a good week. Ros

  15. Together the kookaburras sound like a gang of Australian lady quilters sharing a rude joke.

  16. And I'm sure the rude joke is about YP.

I have too many bantam roosters (about a dozen) who go off at all hours. If you turn on the bathroom light, they crow. If someone sneezes, they crow. If one crows, they all crow. And I sleep peacefully through the whole thing. I fear I'm a true country bumpkin.
