GREETINGS FROM DORSET

Greetings from Little Thatch Cottage in Dorset, England.

After a smooth and uneventful flight , we picked up our car at Heathrow and set off under cloudy skies for our cottage in Dorset. It is so nice to be back in the beautiful countryside of gently rolling green hills.

Our cottage is lovely and has everything we need. It is in a small village which has a farm shop, a post office, a church and a pub. A tiny “burn” runs along the edge of the road that passes through the centre of the village and several houses are built right up to the edge of this tiny stream, entered from the road by little bridges over the burn. Roses and wisteria climb up the front of many of the little cottages and both are blooming so it is very pretty. Our cottage is the second one in a terrace and the only one with a thatched roof.

On Sunday we walked up to our local pub, the Brewers Arms, for a Sunday roast. The roast pork was lovely ( Yorkshire pudding too ). Later we walked up through the fields towards the next village along a pathway lined with some white flowering wild flower. Can anyone enlighten me with its name?

More of our adventures when we have a better connection.
Cheers.

  2. That flower is known as cow parsley and according to Wikipaedia its proper name is - Anthriscus sylvestris Helen! Your cottage looks really lovely - enjoy the rest of your stay.

  10. Thrilled you checked in and glad you arrived safely. What a long flight that must have been. I'm thinking cow parsely or queen anne's lace. Can't wait to see more.

  11. Every morning I look up at the arrival flights.
I'm eight minutes west in 'flying time' from Heathrow, and wonder if you were up there looking down? Guess you flew in at the weekend then?
So, welcome. Dorset is my favourite county. If you or hubby like blue cheese - try the Blue Vinney (or Vinny) and it is tradition to have it with 'Dorset Knobs'! Honest.
    Cheers.....Bernard
